What we are

Oaks is a vintage clothing house specializing in pre-1990 American sportswear, prep, and adventure outfitting. We hunt, examine, measure, photograph, and grade every piece ourselves. We are not a thrift store. We are not a marketplace. We are a small group of collectors with a particular eye, and a building full of clothing we believe in.

Most of what we keep is between thirty and seventy years old. A small fraction is older. None of it is reproduction.

What we keep - three rules
I.

Provenance, not nostalgia.

We chase the source, not the look. Pre-1960 Abercrombie & Fitch outdoor goods. Original Banana Republic 1978-1988. Brooks Brothers sack suits with the right stitch. The clothing has to be what it claims to be.

II.

Condition before rarity.

A common piece in extraordinary condition is more interesting to us than a rare piece beaten down. Every garment is examined on a lit table, measured at four points, and graded against a fixed scale. Notes go on the listing.

III.

Made to be worn.

These are clothes, not artifacts. We sell them with the expectation that they enter rotation. Care notes on the tag, repair recommendations on request, no plastic sleeves.

The process - sourcing to listing
Step 01

Source

Estates, mills, private collections, and a small handful of dealers we trust. Roughly 1 in 30 pieces is kept.

Step 02

Examine

Lit table, gloves where needed, four-point measure. Fabric content, period details, construction.

Step 03

Restore

Gentle clean only. We do not refinish, redye, or alter. Damage is left damage; period repairs stay.

Step 04

List

Catalog number assigned. Photographed on warm linen. Notes written long-form. Ten-day cooldown before publishing.

Our team.

Two people. One vision.
